Hadith

377. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "On the Day of Resurrection, Allah, the Exalted, will say: `Where are those who have mutual love for the sake of My Glory? Today I shall shelter them in My Shade when there will be no shade except Mine".
[Muslim].

379. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "A man set out to visit a brother (in Faith) in another town and Allah sent an angel on his way. When the man met the angel, the latter asked him, "Where do you intend to go?'' He said, "I intend to visit my brother in this town". The angel said, "Have you done any favor to him?'' He said, "No, I have no desire except to visit him because I love him for the sake of Allah, the Exalted, and Glorious.'' Thereupon the angel said, "I am a messenger to you from Allah (to inform you) that Allah loves you as you love him (for His sake)".
[Muslim].

Hadith

224. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)) said: “The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of one body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body aches, because of sleeplessness and fever.” [Muslim]

Commentary:
If your finger, foot, or any part of your body is hurting, you cannot sleep. Your body may develop a fever while it tries to neutralize the pathogens in an infected part. When one part of your body is trying to fight the enemy, the whole body invariably gets involved in the process. The Prophet (PBUH) described the Ummah as one body!

So if a Muslim anywhere in the world, in the center of the body or the tips, on the finger or on the toes, is hurting, you should feel the same pain. If you are only concerned about your safety and the safety of your direct family, then there’s something wrong with you. You are not really part of the body. The Prophet (PBUH) said that the Ummah is one body: It doesn’t matter that they are split into different political states or that they belong to different Madhahibs/Fiqh, as long as the person is a Muslim they are a part of your body.

Sometimes we look at it as, “Only me and my group are Muslims.” Why? Because he doesn’t follow my Jamaa’h, he’s not following my way? As long as you cannot prove that that Muslim is a Kafir (disbeliever), he is a Muslim. As long as you don’t have evidence that such a person is a Murtad (apostate), he is a Muslim; whether he belongs to the same Madhhab or the same group or the same country or not, makes no difference.

We all talk about the importance of having unity. If having unity means having one group, abandoning all the different Jamaa’ts and getting rid of all of the different Madhahibs, then we’ll all just be copies of each other and that’s an impossible thing to have. The fact that the Ummah is diverse and has these different elements in it, is what makes us strong. If a person running a business just has expertise in one area then eventually that will limit how much business he can get. But if he has people with multiple areas of expertise then the amount of business that they can go after will increase accordingly. What we mean by unity is that even though your approach to Islamic work might be different, the Imam that you follow might be different, you are there to help your brother when your brother is in need; that is unity.

Hadith

689. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Three are the signs of a hypocrite: When he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is trusted, he betrays his trust.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Another narration adds the words: "Even if he observes Saum (fasts), performs Salat (prayer) and claims to be a Muslim.''

Commentary: This Hadith has already been mentioned in the chapter about trusts. See Commentary on Hadith No. 201. Its repetition here is meant to stress the point that a hypocrite is recognized by breaking his promise.

Hadith

355. `Amr bin Shu`aib (May Allah be pleased with him)on the authority of his father who heard it from his father reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "He is not one of us who shows no mercy to younger ones and does not acknowledge the honor due to our elders".
[At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud].

Commentary: The words "he is not one of us'' here mean that he is not following the way of the Prophet (PBUH). To show compassion to youngster means showing kindness and generosity to them. On the same principle, it is essential for the young that they respect the elders, the learned and the pious.

Hadith

369. A man asked the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), "When will the Hour be established O Allah's Apostle?" The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) asked, "What have you prepared for it?" The man said, "I haven't prepared for it much of prayers or fast or alms, but I love Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "You will be with those whom you love."
[Bukhari]

Commentary:
There are three important points to note here:

1. There is something more important than knowing when the Day of Judgment will occur. The more important thing is our preparation for that Day. What good or bad deeds have you sent forth for that Day? Each person's Judgment begins as soon as they die, and their grave becomes either a pit of fire or a garden of Paradise. Therefore, the most relevant thing to worry about are our daily deeds, as we never know when we will die and our Judgment commence.

2. The questioner in the hadith did the required (Fardh) prayers, fasts, and charity but not a whole lot extra. Some people do the opposite; they neglect the Fardh while doing a lot of the Sunnah (supererogatory). This is misguided because the greatest reward is for Fardh deeds and punishment is for neglecting the Fardh, not the Sunnah.

This is misguided because the greatest reward is for Fardh deeds and punishment is for neglecting the Fardh, not the Sunnah.

3. Most sobering is that you will be with the people you love on the Day of Judgment. If you love the Muslims, you will be with the Muslims and will follow them where they will go (Jannah). If you have love for the Kuffar, you will be with the Kuffar on the Day of Judgment. Peer into your heart to see who it is you really love. This will tell you where you will be on the Day of Judgment.

On the Day of Judgment “Allah will tell the people, ‘Follow the gods you used to worship.’ So whoever used to worship the cross will follow the cross, and whoever used to worship an idol will follow that idol." What Allah is telling us is that if somebody didn’t worship Him, they shouldn't expect the Reward from Him either. They should go to the gods they worshiped for their reward. That’s the justice of Allah. Then Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) will take all the false gods and throw them in Hell; and their people will have to follow them. And there is No god besides Allah.

Hadith

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) visited Umm Sa'ib (or Umm Musaiyyab) and asked her, "What ails you O Umm Sa'ib (or Umm Musaiyyab)? You are shivering.'' She replied: "It is a fever, may Allah not bless it!'' He said to her, "Do not revile fever, for it cleanses out the sins of the sons of Adam in the same way that a furnace removes the dirt of iron.''
[Muslim].        (2).    Rasul Allah, sal Allah alayhi wa sallam, said "Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day (of Judgment) should not harm his neighbor. Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day should host his guest generously. And anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day should say what is good or keep quiet."
(Sahih Al-Bukhari)   (3).  224. Nu`man bin Bashir (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever".
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. (4 ).

Hadith

13. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying: "By Allah, I seek Allah's forgiveness and repent to Him more than seventy times a day.''
[Al-Bukhari].

Commentary:
1. It is an inducement for seeking pardon and forgiveness. The Prophet (PBUH), whose past and future sins were forgiven, asked Allah's forgiveness - then how about us, who commit sins on regular basis, not to seek pardon and forgiveness from Allah?

2. Sincere and ceaseless prayer for pardon is essential so that sins committed by us unintentionally are also forgiven. The above Hadith lays great emphasis on seeking pardon.

Hadith (2). Abu Hurayrah, radi Allahu' anhu, narrated: the Prophet, sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam, said, "Being rich does not mean having a great amount of property. Being wealthy is being content."
[Muslim]

Hadith

1376. Mu`awiyah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of Deen.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: Knowledge and understanding of Deen (religion) here stands for the understanding of the Qur'an and Hadith, religious injunctions, and knowledge of the lawful and the unlawful. This Hadith highlights the excellence of knowledge and the fact that it is a sign of Allah's Help to the person who possesses it and acts upon it.                                                               Hadith (2).

Collection of Hadith

Allah's Messenger (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Love your beloved moderately, perhaps he becomes hated to you someday. And hate whom you hate moderately, perhaps he becomes your beloved someday.” (Hasan) [Chapters On Righteousness: Jami At-Tirmidhi]

Commentary:
Situations and circumstances keep on changing in a person's life. As a result, old friends become new adversaries and vice versa, and nobody knows what is in store for him in the future. It is, therefore, advisable not to go beyond the limits of moderation either in friendship or enmity.

This hadith advises us to be moderate in our dealings and not go overboard. Even if you don’t like someone, do not go to extremes for it might be a cause of embarrassment and regret for you, if you end up having to change your mind about them. Similarly, one should be moderate in one’s show of love, for it is only in love of Allah and His Messenger that our love should be extreme. Out of love of Allah and His Messenger we love what Allah loves and hate what He hates. This is the Muslim’s criteria of love and hatred.

When it is said that we should be moderate, it is very important to identify the end points/extremes. To be a moderate Muslim, does it mean that you stay the middle course between Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) and Abu Jahl? Is the moderation supposed to be between these two end points? No. Moderation is never between Islam and Kufr, between belief and disbelief! The moderation of a Muslim is to be between Abu Bakr and Umar (radi Allahu anhuma), or to be between Uthman and Ali (radi Allahu anhuma)! May Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) help us all to be moderate Muslims.

Hadith

Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari (R), reported that the Prophet, sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam, said,
"The example of a good companion and a bad one is the bearer of
musk and the worker on the fires. A bearer of musk would give
you some, you might buy some from him, or you might enjoy the
fragrance of his musk. The worker on the fires, on the other
hand, might spoil your clothes with sparks from his bellows, or
you get a bad smell from him." Bukhari and Muslim

[Lessons from this Hadith]
Who are the top 5 people you hang out with? List them. Now look
at their qualities and you'll notice that you are a product of
the sum of them. Do they have the outstanding qualities that you
seek? If not, then it's time to find some bearers of musk that
you can truly smell great from.

Hadith

1892. Abu Sa`id and Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "When the dwellers of Jannah enter Jannah, an announcer will call: (You have a promise from Allah that) you will live therein and you will never die; you will stay healthy therein and you will never fall ill; you will stay young and you will never become old; you will be under a constant bliss and you will never feel miserable.''
[Muslim].

Commentary: We live in this world according to our life span but we never know when this life may come to an end. Youth is a fleeting experience and with the passage of time it turns into old age. One cannot even be sure about the ease in this life. Any time one may land into hardships. In short, nothing is constant in this world.

In Jannah, however, everything will be permanent. Life will be without any danger of death, there will be health without any risk of disease. There will be happiness and bliss without any fear of aging. Everywhere there will be happiness, ease, comfort, enjoyment without any pain, worry, hardship or distress.

Hadith

1396. Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah is pleased with His slave who says: `Al-hamdu lillah (praise be to Allah)' when he takes a morsel of food and drinks a drought of water.''
[Muslim].

Commentary: "Aklah'' means to take a meal at one time, whether in the morning, the evening or at any other time. Similarly "Sharba'' means to drink water at any time. What the Hadith means is that to praise Allah on eating and drinking every time is a source of Allah's Pleasure, no matter whether the quantity one consumes is small or large.

Hadith

1523. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Do you know what is backbiting?'' The Companions said: "Allah and His Messenger know better.'' Thereupon he said, "Backbiting is talking about your (Muslim) brother in a manner which he dislikes.'' It was said to him: "What if my (Muslim) brother is as I say.'' He said, "If he is actually as you say, then that is backbiting; but if that is not in him, that is slandering.''
[Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith elaborates the meaning of backbiting and calumny and points out the difference between the two along with the evils of each one of them. Both these evils are mischief of the tongue and entail great troubles. May Allah save us from both.

1526. Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "During the Mi`raj (the Night of Ascension), I saw a group of people who were scratching their chests and faces with their copper nails. I asked, `Who are these people, O Jibril?' Jibril replied: `These are the people who ate flesh of others (by backbiting) and trampled people's honor.'''
[Abu Dawud].

Commentary: "These are the people who ate flesh of others'' is a metaphor for backbiting. "To trample people's honor'' is akin to harming their goodwill and honor. The punishment for these things mentioned in Hadith makes their seriousness obvious.

Hadith Qudsi S.A.W # 3 with audio.

On the authority of Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhaniyy (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
The Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) led the morning prayer for us at al-Hudaybiyah following rainfall during the night. When the Prophet (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) finished, he faced the people and said to them: “Do you know what your Lord has said?” They said: “Allah and his Messenger know best.” He said: “‘This morning one of my servants became a believer in Me and one a disbeliever. As for him who said: ‘We have been given rain by virtue of Allah and His mercy,’ that one is a believer in Me, a disbeliever in the stars (2); and as for him who said: ‘We have been given rain by such-and-such a star,’ that one is a disbeliever in Me, a believer in the stars.’”

(2) The pre-Islamic Arabs believed that rain was brought about by the movement of stars. This Hadith draws attention to the fact that whatever be the direct cause of such natural phenomena as rain, it is Allah the Almighty who is the Disposer of all things.

It is related by al-Bukhari (also

Hadith Q udsi S.A.W. # 6 with audio.

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say:
“The first of people against whom judgment will be pronounced on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who died a martyr. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His favours and he will recognize them. [The Almighty] will say: ‘And what did you do about them?’ He will say: ‘I fought for You until I died a martyr.’ He will say: ‘You have lied - you did but fight that it might be said [of you]: ‘He is courageous.’’ And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire. [Another] will be a man who has studied [religious] knowledge and has taught it and who used to recite the Qur’an. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His favours and he will recognize them. [The Almighty] will say: ‘And what did you do about them?’ He will say: ‘I studied [religious] knowledge and I taught it and I recited the Qur’an for Your sake.’ He will say: ‘You have lied - you did but study [religious] knowledge that it might be said [of you]: ‘He is learned.’’ And you recited the Qur’an that it might be said [of you]: ‘He is a reciter.’ And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire. [Another] will be a man whom Allah had made rich and to whom He had given all kinds of wealth. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His favours and he will recognize them. [The Almighty] will say: ‘And what did you do about them?’ He will say: ‘I left no path [un-trodden] in which You like money to be spent without spending in it for Your sake.’ He will say: ‘You have lied - you did but do so that it might be said [of you]: ‘He is open-handed.’’ And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire.”
